The New York Hall of Science’s 10,000 sqft. Central Pavilion is home to a new permanent exhibition called “Design Lab,” a space dedicated to hands-on learning for children of all ages. Instead of creating a conventional semi-narrative exhibition space, Design Lab is composed of a community of five flexible workshops. Distributed throughout the Central Pavilion, each workshop is distinct in size, material, and degree of enclosure.
The workshops each have unique characters, and their designs are inspired by spaces that traditionally encourage imaginative play: sandboxes, treehouses, dollhouses, and forts.
