The Thonet Redux Chair utilizes steam-bending and digital fabrication techniques to reinterpret a classic design by Michael Thonet. The chair is an exercise in the combination of old-style manual methods and modern technology. While the process was aided by the presence of technology, the human hand still played the major role in the construction and assembly processes. To construct the Thonet Redux Chair, white oak was soaked overnight and steamed before being molded around formwork that was milled on a CNC router.
