2016 | Riverdale Country School
Riverdale, Bronx, NY
ARO designed a new 23,000 sqft academic building for third through fifth grades at the Riverdale Country School. The building will additionally house a mix of program, including a cafeteria, theater, multi-purpose classrooms, and staff offices. The dramatic wooded campus provides a unique opportunity within New York City; the building is seen as a lens through which students can engage in the natural environment. Through skylights, large expanses of glass, and carefully positioned aperatures, the building both frames the landscape, and encourages students’ playful interaction with it.
In addition, the building’s central corridor is seen as a “campus commons”, which provides spaces for casual meetings and group learning activities.
