The Wave Swing was designed as a site specific installation for Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As a public park, Nichols Arboretum becomes quite crowded, and a quiet escape can be difficult to experience. To address this, the Wave Swing was designed to facilitate intimacy and encourage quiet conversation between two people.
The construction of the Wave Swing uses steam bending techniques with the implementation of digital fabrication technologies. CNC routers were used to create the formwork needed to bend the strips of white oak used in the design.
